This interview conjures up memories of my former life as a quasi-fashion
guru when the dress tag -- included with certain items of clothing that I
wore out on the town -- played a major role in my decision to purchase.
My first preference was any designer that was of the
Italian persuasion like Giorgio Armani
and Giorgio Brutini to name a few. I still have a
preference for those type designs, however, my wallet has developed a
different more frugal taste for anything Wal-Mart --
smile! Some of you may remember the hit south Florida TV
drama Miami Vice that lit up the screens of many
Americans in the 1980’s, and
featured two of the most well-dressed detectives in television
history.
Each week was like a lesson in fashion for me and millions of viewers when drug detectives Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) and Ricardo Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) adorned some of the hottest fashions of the day while solving some of the coldest cases of drug trafficking. Another designer that comes to mind is the late Gianni Versace who is credited with the Art-Deco renaissance of the South Beach area of Miami Beach, Florida; where he owned a lavished abode at the corner of 11th and Ocean Drive. Finally, I actually still have in my closet part of my favorite outfit that I wore out during the Miami Vice heyday by the late African-American designer Will Smith (No relation to Jada’s hubby) known as WilliWear.

On that note, I have been loosely following an annual fashion show event
-- via social media -- that takes place near Atlanta,
Georgia each April. This event gives
novice designers and models a chance to take center stage and show what
they have while strolling down the runway under the spotlights. This year
is the 8th annual event which is presented by
ABS Fine Arts and Apparel, and I was pleased to catch up
with the founder and organizer Mrs. Pamela Edwards who
had the following to say about her and their upcoming event…
Jay -- Are you married?
Pamela -- Yes
Jay -- Do you have any children? If yes, how many and what ages?
Pamela -- 3 sons; 23, 18, and 17
Jay -- What are your experiences concerning the arts and fashion?
Pamela -- My initial experience concerning fashion came through assisting my sister [Crystal] and best friend with fashion shows in Miami. I have also gained fashion experience by hosting my very own fashion shows in California as well as in Georgia. I was exposed to art when I married my husband because he is an artist.
Jay -- Where did the idea of The Ultimate Fashion Xperience come from?
Pamela -- The initial idea to host fashions show came from a customer who told me that I should do a fashion show. With my limited knowledge and training I decided to go for it. God gave me the format because I had no clue as to how to put together a major fashion show. Every year I would find myself searching for a theme for that year’s event. I decided that we should have one theme that is catchy and memorable; hence The Ultimate Fashion Xperience was created.
