Carlo's Cafe', Rock Hill, SC
Real Cuban Food!
By Jay Whipple/Trend Magazine Online™
I thought that I was seeing things when I stumbled upon this eatery in one of the most unlikely towns – Rock Hill, SC. This mid-sized town was known for many troubles during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s and would have been the last place that I would expect to come across a Cuban restaurant that actually served Cuban sandwiches – who would have thunk it?
It had been over five years since I had been able to order and consume one of my favorite Cuban meals. The last time was in Little Havana in Miami, Fl., with my daughter. I can not remember what she ordered but she seemed pleased with whatever she consumed. This eatery is neatly designed to replicate the look and feel of the mom and pop Cuban eateries in Lil Havana that include a swanky ambiance, tropical interior, and ceiling fans. And yes, it is actually owned and operated by a genuine Cuban. I am still awaiting my cigars to clear customs –just kidding.
Carlos and his staff were very friendly and cordial as I awaited my usual take out order of a Cuban sandwich, fries, and drink which came up to just over eight dolares. The restrooms were immaculate and my order was up in the usual 10 minute time frame. My sandwich was as expected – delicious – and I was given a frequent diner card by the proprietor. I especially enjoyed the side pickle which was crisp, crunchy, and cold just like I prefer. You can also download coupons from their web site.
Carlos’ Cafe is located at 1998 Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732. Their phone number is 803-329-7171 and web site is www.carloscafe.com. Tell them that Trend Magazine Online™ sent you!
