London England

The UK may be small, but it`s perfectly formed and can offer up a bit of just about anything you fancy. Want to visit a beach? How about a city tour? Lakes, flatlands, rolling hills, the UK has it all - heck, it`s even got a few mountains!

Buckingham PalaceThe first-time visitor is sure to want to take in a city or two. London has to be the first choice on any tourist`s wish list, with a whole wealth of history just waiting to be discovered. From Buckingham Palace, home to the present Queen of England, to the Tower of London, you can see where some of England`s Kings and Queens have lived, died and occasionally even been murdered! If you want to go even further back in time, then you`ll definitely want to take in a trip to York, a walled city dating back to Roman times and home to York Minster, one of the finest and oldest gothic cathedrals in the world. From here it`s just a short trip to reach the famous east coast with its bracing sea breezes, cliff top walks and fish `n` chip suppers.

Edinburg Scotland

Farther north, Edinburgh in Scotland is the place to visit in August, when the city plays host to the famous Edinburgh Festival, the largest art festival in the world and the Fringe Festival, a comedy extravaganza like no other. If you can tear yourself away from all this culture, Scotland offers up rugged mountain scenery and a host of islands to explore, although you might find it hard to understand what the locals are saying. They`re speaking English, but with an accent so thick you may need to find a friendly native to interpret for you!

Millennium StadiumDon`t forget about Wales. This little country has the longest coastal footpath through some of the loveliest scenery in the UK. But if all that sounds too much like hard work then head for Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, home to the famous Millennium Stadium and, perhaps more importantly, some excellent shops!

Down in Devon and Cornwall in the south-west of England, the wild and dramatic coastline once played host to smugglers, but now has become better known for its excellent surfing and of course the cream tea; a very British concoction of scones, jam and cream taken with a cup of good old English tea!

Lake District CottagesPossibly the jewel in England`s crown is the glorious Lake District, home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the country with high peaks and beautiful lakes. From your base at Lake District cottages you can explore the countryside that inspired Beatrix Potter to write her world famous animal stories and visit the birthplace of William Wordsworth, one of England`s finest Romantic poets.
