Hidden Treasures of London England!
2012 Olympics !

London Olympics PicBy Hannah Newcombe/ for Trend Magazine Online™

London is one of the busiest, most diverse and vibrant places in Europe. The capital of both England and the United Kingdom, its profile across the world is higher than ever, thanks to things like the Olympic Games and the Jubilee. However, away from its landmarks, monuments and busiest streets, there are plenty of quiet, interesting corners to be found in the city.

Big Ben PicOne little hidden gem is not really a place at all, but instead is the number 12 bus route. While this may sound mundane even for a list of hidden gems, take a ticket and board a bus and you will see why it is a treat. A simple ticket and a ride on this bus takes travelers past many of the city`s major landmarks, such as the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, the Prime Minister`s residence at 10 Downing Street, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus. And all at a fraction of the cost of one of the expensive tourist bus rides which are on offer to visitors.

The East End has also become much more accessible and open to visitors in recent years. No longer the haunt of famed gangsters like the Kray twins, heading to the east of the city is a gateway to marvelous global cuisine and some lovely interesting independent stores. To find that off-beat pair of shoes or a strikingly original shirt is easy here, though you may want to make it more tricky just to spend more time in the lively streets. Brick Lane is famed now as the centre of London`s huge Bangladeshi community and some of the best South Asian cuisine in the world is available from humble street restaurants.

There are many museums in London, detailing the history of the city as well as that of the wider United Kingdom. However, away from the beaten track visitors can find some venues which probe a whole level of hidden history. One such venue is the Old Operating Theatre, located in a roof garret at St Thomas` Church. This 19th century medical facility offers great insights into the lives of the London poor and the way illness was treated in the past. It was opened as an operating theatre for women in 1821.

One of London`s major attractions, of course, is the West End, famous for its theatres and shows. Heading to websites like Boxoffice.co.uk means that you can browse the full range of tickets which are available and top off your trip to London with a world famous show or stunning piece of independent theatre. As a way to round off a trip to one of the world`s great cities, it is hard to beat.
