China's Shaolin Temple - the legendary kungfu shrine, is planning a tourism project to revive from the financial crisis. Shi Yongxin, the abbot, said that the aim would be achieved through "perception of Zen's wisdom and power". Shi also added that the project would help tourists have a taste of Zen Buddhism.

It would allow tourists to meditate sitting cross-legged and eat vegetables like other monks.
At the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislative body, Shi also stated that the impact of financial crisis has not been felt on tourists spending on culture and tourism because a rise of 10 percent in the number of visitors have been experienced last year.

Other encouraging factor includes the number of tourists visiting the 1,500-year-old Shaolin Temple in China's central province of Henan.

The average number of tourists visiting the Shaolin temple is two million every year.
Shaolin Kung Fu provides physical strength. It also provides an opportunity to live the life of Zen followers.

It can lead them to the perception of Zen wisdom. The practices are also very popular among the tourists. Media always had its' focus on the famous Shaolin temple.

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

The development of business ventures like kungfu shows, film production and online selling have drawn the attention of the media.
Shi also mentioned about the future plans, which include opening of a branch of the temple at Hong Kong with an aim of showcasing Shaolin Kungfu and Chinese culture to the world.

However, this move faced considerable criticism from Chinese public and now Shi is often termed as the “CEO monk” in the media. The media criticized Shi on the ground that such moves are the result of using Shaolin as a business puppet.

Contrarily, he also received support on the ground that commercialization will only help to protect and spread Chinese kungfu better. To promote Shaolin kungfu and Chinese culture, Shaolin temple has set up 28 overseas centers in Britain, France, Germany, Australia and other countries.
