Sadie's, Charlotte, NC
Still Hangin In There!

I learned about this eatery from one of my Charlotte Daily Black/African-American Heritage Tour customers who had dined here. Sadie’s is located in northeast Charlotte off North Sharon-Amity Road near Milton Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard It is in a shopping plaza that I witness being built during my days as a distribution engineer with Duke Power Company (now Duke Energy). My office was within walking distance and back then this area was one of the fastest growing areas in the Queen City back in the late 1980’s.  Today it’s sort of old looking and slightly run down.

It was on a Saturday in February and I stopped by after conducting another QCT Charlotte Pilgrimage Tour as we have been doing each Black History Month since 1999. The sanitation code was 92 (out of 100), the restroom clean, and the server was cordial. I ordered my usual take out, in this case I chose the red beans and rice dinner with mac (macaroni) and cheese and collard greens as my side orders. This gave me a chance to check out the dining area more closely and it was clean, small but quaint. It is a great hideaway place to take a date or if you do not like large crowds. My order totaled $10.36 with tax and was up pretty quick; approximately 5 minutes.

I cannot remember anything special about my meal nor can I remember anything that stuck out as bad. I have had better red beans and rice at another local eatery but if you are on this side of time it’s worth the stop. Update – According to Yelp the restaurant is now closed, however, their phone number (below) still works and the message promotes their catering service.

Sadie’s is/was located in northeast Charlotte at 5708 North Sharon-Amity Road, Suite H, Charlotte, NC, 28215. Their phone number is 704-532-5570 and menu is online here. Tell them that Trend Magazine Online™ sent you!
