I had been eyeing this establishment for a few months while engaged in transportation services in the Magic City. One common thing that I noticed on each eyeing was the consistent late night crowds which are typically a sign that something good was going on at this eatery. The location is quite familiar to me as it was where we used to hang out back in the day mostly on a Saturday or during the summer months when we were out on school break. Our main hang out was the nearby canal which served as our favorite fishing hole where we trolled the Miami fresh water for minnows and Oscars to bring back home and keep for my late cousin Ken's aquarium. One time I caught a future pet turtle and it was not uncommon to spot a Florida gator (Alligator) cruising just below the surface of the water. We thought that was really cool back then but in hind sight we should have moved to a different location because of the leaping ability of those prehistoric beasts. My late cousin Ken actually swam across that canal once after a dare. It was an amazing feat!

I chose a pretty crappy day to make my stop as it was raining and a bit chilly -- for Miami -- that day in April. It did not help that the air-conditioner was set to low inside the restaurant which caused the windows to fog up so thick you could barely see the customers waiting inside. Other than that the small (20 person) waiting/dining area was very clean and neatly decorated with a red and Black contemporary theme. It included two HDTV (High Definition Television) screens on either wall with smooth background music playing to entertain customers while waiting for our orders. The staff was very friendly and cordial and the unisex (men and women) rest room was clean.

I ordered my usual take out, especially with the cold waiting/dining area, and decided on the baked chicken dinner with a side of -- my favorite -- collard greens and mac (macaroni) and cheese. My total came to $9.62 (with tax) which I consider a bit on the pricey side. My order was up in less than the standard 10 minutes which was quite impressive considering the dinner crowd that had come in after me. Also impressive was the fact that my server allowed me to view my meal before bagging it to give me a chance to check for accuracy -- something rarely done at fast food restaurants. My baked chicken and greens were cooked with Caribbean flavors and spices which was a different twist on the tradition southern-style flavors and spices. The mac and cheese was okay but a bit too starchy as opposed to smooth and cheesy.

I recently had an opportunity to re-visit Finga Licking during lunch time with my friend Emma at their new location in Miami Gardens off 27th Avenue. This time I ordered the chicken croissant sandwich and she ordered fried couch. This type sandwich was a first for me and it was to die for and included tender chicken chunks with my favorite broccoli, bell peppers, tomatoes, grilled onion, cheese, and bell peppers. My friend, however, preferred this location's meal over the one on 27th Avenue where she dined on fried shrimp, pigeon peas, and collard greens. The couch on 27th, she said, was too salty and fried too hard. In addition, she did not like using the same bathroom as us men.

Miami Finga Licking is located at 12490 N.W. 7th Avenue, and 17647 NW 27th Avenue, Miami, FL, 33168/33145. Their website is https://miamifingalicking.com/ and phone numbers are (786) 703-3087/(786) 520-4675. Tell 'em that you read about them in Trend Magazine Onlinetm.
