The Annual QCT Charlotte Pilgrimage Tour™
Let the Healing Continue!
By Jay Whipple/Trend Magazine Online™
On August 20, 1998, the Interfaith Pilgrimage stopped through Charlotte as part of their journey from Boston to West Africa. The Pilgrims re-traced the "Middle Passage" slave trade routes as they prayed for racial healing and atonement for past institution of Slavery in the United States, South America, and Europe. While in Charlotte, the Pilgrims took a customized Black Heritage Tour™ of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Among the sites visited by the Pilgrims was a former Slave church and three existing Slave cemeteries. Each year, Queen City Tours® and Travel invites you to experience the re-creation of this special Charlotte Black Heritage Tour™ and Pilgrimage during the month of February – Black History Month.
Visit three existing Slave cemeteries, a former Slave church, and over 50 other sites of Charlotte African-American history on this tour. Tours are scheduled each 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturday in February – Black History Month – at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Each tour lasts three hours and departs from the 7th Street Station in Uptown Charlotte located at 260 East 7th Street, next to the Lynx Blue Line Light Rail Station. FREE parking is available as long as there are no special events taking place in Uptown. Catch the Light Rail from one of their FREE parking lots south of Uptown and SAVE! Guests are treated to souvenir snack bags that include discounts from area merchants.
This event supports the Pilgrimage Scholarship established in 2008 in honor of the late Pastor Jeff Lowrance of Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Each year a college student studying or preparing to study African-American history is awarded this scholarship and must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. In addition, seats are donated by individuals, organizations, and companies that realize the importance of our underprivileged youth learning their history as opposed to becoming a part of negative history.
If you cannot attend you can purchase a digital copy of our Annual Pilgrimage Tour which is now available via download. You can also purchase a seat for underprivileged youth and donate your seat(s). To purchase your donated seat(s) on the 14th Annual Charlotte Black/African-American Heritage Tour™ and Pilgrimage visit our site and indicate that preference in the notes to seller section. Your name will then appear on our web site as a donor and we sure do appreciate your gift of knowledge!
