On Friday, January 13, after participating in the MLK Parade in Fort Lauderdale promoting our Black Pages Worldwide™ directory, I made my way again to Sisters of the New South in Savannah, Georgia, after having positive past experiences. ๐Ÿš— Arriving around 4 PM, I was greeted by a bustling scene that hinted at the eatery's popularity. Among the patrons ahead of me was a young college-aged white couple, a unique sight in this traditionally African-American neighborhood. It was refreshing to see the restaurant open, especially after finding it closed during my Thanksgiving visit in November 2022. ๐Ÿ

As it was a Friday, I decided to stick with tradition and order fish, specifically whiting, with three sides: black-eyed peas, green beans, and candied yams. ๐ŸŸ My order was promptly taken by a friendly young man who informed me that both the whiting and tilapia were cooked fresh to order. Despite the ominous dateโ€”Friday the 13thโ€”I focused on the positive atmosphere and my anticipation of a good meal. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿณ The service was impressively swift; my meal was ready in under ten minutes, a commendable feat considering the fish was cooked fresh. โฑ๏ธ

The first thing I noticed was the thoughtful retention of my email address from my previous visit, which they used to send my receipt. ๐Ÿ“ง This small touch of customer service was appreciated. The total cost of my meal, including tax, came to $17.03, which seemed a bit steep but understandable given the recent surge in ingredient prices. Upon digging into my meal, I found the candied yams to be the standoutโ€”they were cooked to perfection, with just the right balance of sweetness and texture. ๐Ÿ  The black-eyed peas, while slightly firm, were decent, and the green beans were well-cooked, maintaining a pleasant firmness without being too mushy. ๐Ÿฅ—

However, the whiting, unfortunately, fell short of expectations. The filets were thinly sliced and, after reheating, had a somewhat rubbery texture. ๐Ÿ˜• This was a disappointment, especially given the otherwise enjoyable sides. Despite this, the overall experience at Sisters of the New South was positive, and the vibrant atmosphere and friendly service made up for the fish's shortcomings. I plan to return to this charming eatery but will likely explore other menu options next time. ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Sisters of the New South is located at 2605 Skidaway Rd, Savannah, GA 31404. You can reach them at (912) 335-2761 or visit their website. For those looking to enjoy some authentic soul food in Savannah, this spot is worth a visit. The warm service and delightful sides make it a great choice, even if the fish wasn't quite to my taste. ๐ŸŒŸ
