A Fortunate Detour in Savannah ππ΄
Sometimes the best meals are found when plans go sideways β and my visit to
2 Chefs Gullah Geechee Soul Food in
Savannah,
Georgia, proved exactly that. It was
Thursday,
November 24th, when my original dinner spot,
Sisters of the New South, unexpectedly closed early with no notice on their website π±π« (a screenshot later confirmed it was supposed to close at 9 p.m.). After a long day that included an
EPCOT return trip, I turned to
Google in search of a worthy substitute β and stumbled upon this hidden gem on
[Dr.] Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
First Impressions & Atmosphere πΆπ½οΈ
Arriving around
4:25 p.m., I found parking limited out front, but managed to grab a spot across the street π. From the moment I walked in, I was acknowledged with genuine
Southern warmth β no waiting, no fuss, just a nod and a smile ππΎπ. The dΓ©cor was simple and true to its roots:
down-home soul food restaurant charm with subtle cultural touches and the smooth sounds of classic soul music filling the air π΅π. A small but steady crowd of locals enjoyed their meals, creating a welcoming, family-style energy that made me feel right at home.
The Feast: Fast, Flavorful, and Fulfilling ππ π
I ordered turkey wings with red rice, collard greens, candied yams, and cornbread β the kind of combination that speaks to the soul. My order came out in less than five minutes, astonishingly fast for freshly prepared comfort food β±οΈπ₯.
Each bite reminded me why Southern cooking remains one of
North Americaβs most beloved culinary traditions πΊπΈβ€οΈ. The turkey wings were
fall-off-the-bone tender, seasoned to perfection, and not greasy β easily above average and worth the
$19.97 price tag (+$2 rice substitution). The greens struck the ideal balance β not too stiff, not too soft, and bursting with smoky, savory flavor π₯¬ππΎ. The red rice was fluffy, well-seasoned, and had that perfect
Lowcountry spice level β never overpowering but full of life πβ¨. The candied yams were sweet but not syrupy, soft yet firm enough to hold their shape π π. Only the cornbread came up average β a bit more sweetness wouldβve pushed it into
βmemorableβ territory ππ€πΎ.
Verdict: A Hidden Gullah Geechee Gem πΎπ What started as disappointment turned into a blessing in disguise ππΎ.
2 Chefs Gullah Geechee Soul Food delivered one of the most satisfying, authentic, and well-seasoned
Southern meals Iβve enjoyed in years. The service was quick, the music uplifting, and the food an honest reflection of
Gullah Geechee culinary heritage β soulful, unpretentious, and deeply flavorful πΆπ΄.
So, yes β Iβm glad
Sisters of the New South was closed that night. It led me straight to
2 Chefs, and Iβll absolutely be back for another helping. If you find yourself in
Savannah craving a true taste of home, this is where youβll want to be.
