On August 20, 1998, the Interfaith Pilgrimage πΆββοΈπΆββοΈ made a significant stop through Charlotte as part of their profound journey from Boston to West Africa. The Pilgrims retraced the Middle Passage slave trade routes π, praying for racial healing ποΈ and atonement for the past institution of Slavery in the United States, South America, and Europe. While in Charlotte, they experienced a customized Black Heritage Toursm of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. The tour included visits to a former Slave church ποΈ and three existing Slave cemeteries β°οΈ.Trend Magazine Online™

Each year, Queen City Tours® and Travel invites you to experience the re-creation of this special Charlotte Black Heritage Toursm and Pilgrimage during the months of February - Black History Month π , and June - Juneteenth π for individual public tours. Explore three historic Slave cemeteries, a former Slave church, and over 50 other significant sites of Charlotte Black/African-American history. Tours are scheduled daily in February and June at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM β°. Each tour lasts three hours and departs from the 7th Street Public Market in Uptown Charlotte ποΈ, conveniently located next to the Lynx Blue Line Light Rail Station π. Take advantage of the Light Rail from one of their FREE parking lots π ΏοΈ south and north of Uptown/Downtown/Center City and SAVE!
This event supports the Pilgrimage Scholarship π established in 2008 in honor of the late Pastor Jeff Lowrance of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and Civil Rights Hero Dr. Reginald Armistice Hawkins. Annually, a college student studying African-American history is awarded this scholarship and is required to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
