The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service invites the public to enjoy a guided hike in a state park, with more than 30 events to choose from.

“I am very excited to offer this opportunity to Floridians and visitors across the state,” said Florida Park Service Director Donald Forgione. “First Day Hikes are a unique chance to start the new year healthy, outdoors and with family and friends.”

The events in Florida are part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes, a national initiative to get people outside and off to a healthy start for 2015. The hikes will be guided by park staff and volunteers who will provide educational commentary along the way. Come dressed appropriately with sturdy shoes or boots.

Most Florida State Parks will be open regular hours for visitors, including those who do not wish to go hiking.
