On August 20, 1998, the Interfaith Pilgrimage πΆπΎββοΈπ stopped through Charlotte ποΈ as part of their journey from Boston π to West Africa πβοΈ. The Pilgrims re-traced the Middle Passage slave trade routes ββ΅ as they prayed for racial healing and atonement for the past institution of Slavery in the United States πΊπΈ, South America π, and Europe π. While in Charlotte ποΈ, the Pilgrims took a customized Black Heritage Tourβ’ πβπΎ of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Among the sites visited by the Pilgrims were a former Slave church βͺ and three existing Slave cemeteries β°οΈπ―οΈ. Each year, Queen City Tourssm and Travel πβ¨ invites you to experience the re-creation of this special Charlotte Black Heritage Tourβ’ and Pilgrimage ποΈβπΎ as individuals during the months of February β Black History Month π€π, and June β Juneteenth πβπΎ.
Visit three existing Slave cemeteries β°οΈβ±οΈ, a former Slave church βͺ, and over 50 other sites π of Charlotte Black/African-American history on this tour. Tours are scheduled daily in February β Black History Month βπΎπ, and June β Juneteenth ππ©β€οΈ β at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Each tour lasts three hours β³ and departs from the 7th Street Public Market in Uptown Charlotte ποΈ located at 224 East 7th Street, next to the Lynx Blue Line Light Rail Station π. Catch the Light Rail π from one of their FREE parking lots π ΏοΈ south and north of Uptown/Downtown/Center City and SAVE! π΅
This event supports the Pilgrimage Scholarship π established in 2008 in honor of the late Pastor Jeff Lowrance βοΈ of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and Civil Rights Hero Dr. Reginald Armistice Hawkins βπΎ. Each year, a college student π studying or preparing to study African-American history is awarded this scholarship and must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA π. In addition, seats are donated by individuals, organizations, and companies π€ that realize the importance of our underprivileged youth learning their history rather than becoming part of negative history πβ€οΈ.
If you cannot attend, you can purchase a digital copy of our Annual Pilgrimage Tour πΎ which is now available via download. You can also purchase a seat for underprivileged youth π§πΎπ§π½ and donate your seat(s). To purchase your donated seat(s) on the 28th Annual QCT Charlotte Pilgrimage Toursm πβπΎ visit our site and indicate that preference in the notes-to-seller section. Your name will then appear on our website as a donor π and we sure do appreciate your gift of knowledge! ππ
